MDR Sound & Lighting is proud to have partnered with Go Media to provide key structural components for one of Auckland’s most visually commanding outdoor installations — a towering LED screen display mounted directly beneath the iconic KZ1 yacht on the Viaduct Harbour.
At the heart of this build is Chauvet’s TrussT system, supplied by MDR, which served as the framework for supporting the massive LED screen and additional rigging hardware. Nestled between the giant hulls of the historic KZ1 — the original New Zealand America's Cup challenger — the structure had to be both structurally robust and visually discreet, allowing the screen to take centre stage without compromising the integrity or aesthetics of the yacht’s display.
Engineering Meets Elegance
Go Media needed a reliable solution to mount an enormous LED screen that could handle Auckland’s unpredictable waterfront weather and still turn heads day and night. With MDR’s trusted supply of high-quality Chauvet TrussT, the team built a reinforced frame that blends strength with sleek design. This was then clad by Dean at Go Media in a sleek gloss black ABS board wrap.
The images from the install say it all — a seamless integration of industrial capability and creative ambition. The result? A giant, weather-resistant digital canvas currently broadcasting campaigns and cultural promotions, all set against one of the city’s most iconic maritime landmarks.
